DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF SULINDAC INCORPORATED SELF NANO EMULSIFYING DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS.
Sulindac Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery Systems (SNEDDS) formulations were prepared in a bid to enhance the solubility, stability and bioavailability of this hydrophobic drug. Oils, surfactants and co-surfactants were mixed to obtain different formulations. Thermodynamic stability, phase separation and in vitro drug release experiments were used to assess the formulations. SK9 was the best among nine formulations tested as it contained the highest drug content (99.69%) and showed the best stability in all conditions. In vitro drug release experiment demonstrated that formulation SK9 released 99.96 percent of Sulindac in 30 minutes which enhanced the dissolution and bioavailability. The optimized formulation was found to be uniform in particle size, stable and the drug release was fast implying that the formulation has a potential of higher therapeutic efficacy. This study depicts the significance of SNEDDS formulation in terms of choice of the right type of surfactants, co-surfactants, and oils in order to achieve an effective SNEDDS system to enhance the delivery and absorption of the poorly soluble drugs.
